Birds Eye View Exhibition
Orion Powerhouse Gallery

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Akaroa gallery has been closed and we're delighted to bring you our first ever online gallery exhibition.

Four New Zealand native bird artists are migrating south for the “Birds Eye View” exhibition at the Orion Powerhouse Gallery in Akaroa.

From pastels and scratchboards by Karen Rankin Neal, to oils by Carol Theologo, drippy watercolours and ink by Rachel Walker, and photoart and mixed media by Judi Lapsley Miller, each artist brings a unique style and perspective to our native birds.

Yin and Yang Exhibition
Orion Powerhouse Gallery

From February 22nd to March 15th the Akaroa Art Gallery will feature the works of Dael Foy and Sarah Harper in their combined exhibition Yin and Yang.

Aptly named, the artists have two very different styles which complement each other. Predominantly working as a painter, Harper has, recently, also been working with clay and writing poetry.

Foy‘s work is bright, bold landscapes of the New Zealand vista. Brought up by an art teacher mother and a creative, ecologist father Foy was taught from an early age ‘how to see’.

Christine King & Michael Holland Exhibition
Orion Powerhouse Gallery

The Akaroa Art Gallery presents an exhibition featuring local Canterbury artists Christine King and Michael Holland.

Christine King's portrayal of social scenes alludes to her fondness of the German Expressionist Style of the 30's. Figures inhabit jazzy, edgy acrylics or oils, either on canvas or paper. Christine balances colour, form and subject matter. Her paintings are composites of imagination and observation.

Michael Holland, is an independent self-educated painter, he has worked as a full-time artist, in Canterbury since 1999. Michael is an ambitious painter,  he seeks to capture a unique representation of land and seascape, through dream; melding, art history, and personal references.
