Rachel Walker

I was raised in the beautiful seaside town of Napier, New Zealand, and trained as a designer and illustrator at Massey University in Wellington where, since travelling, I have returned to live and paint.

My watercolour, ink and spray paint artworks draw on my awe of the natural world. The drippy, energetic style is both loose in form and precisely detailed — capturing the attitude and beauty of birds, sea creatures, reptiles and wild animals.

My creative work has included a range of projects, from large commissioned pieces to painting for film and opera sets. I've held a number of solo and group exhibitions, created cover art for magazines, albums, and the RNZ Ballet. My artwork can be viewed in galleries around New Zealand, as well as the walls of many wonderful homes. In the past few years I have grown an interest in conservation and pest control, and work with Forest & Bird and the ecosanctuary Zealandia to raise funds through art.
